Wenzel Alpine Tent Review

This three person tent is going to make your next camping trip a lot more about the fun of things and less about the time it takes to set up the tent. It also includes everything you need to have a great time from the removable fly to the mud mat and drainage strip as well as plenty of ventilation to keep you more comfortable.

Features

  • Three person tent
  • 5” x 8” footprint
  • 2 windows and large door
  • Lightweight only 8 pounds
  • Shock corded fiberglass frame
  • Pentadome style tent
  • Weather Armor polyester and polyurethane coating

Pros

If you’re looking for a tent that is super lightweight then you’re in the right place. The Wenzel Alpine Tent is only 8 pounds, which means you can easily carry it along with you on a backpacking trip.

Unlike many other tents that require you to have multiple people to carry or need you to drive your car to the location, you can easily carry it along with you when you’re traveling between different locations for longer trips.

The entire tent is designed to keep water out and make sure that you’re always going to be protected from the weather. The fabric is made with Weather Armor polyester and coated in sonic-sealed polyethylene. Not only that but it’s made with double-stitched seams and even a drainage strip on the integrated mat for the front door.

You’ll have no problem with keeping dry while you’re enjoying your camping trip and the rainfly over the top is going to help with that process even more. Even all the zippers and webbing are specially treated to keep out water and keep everything dry through the rainy season.

Set up is an important aspect of any tent that you buy because you want to make sure it’s going to get done quickly and accurately as well. The great thing with this is that it’s very easy to get going and one person can get it together with no problem. Even better it can be done very quickly because you want to enjoy yourself while you’re camping instead of just focusing on the work that needs to be done.

What’s even better is that you’re going to have plenty of space on the inside. The tent is great for three people but it also has plenty of space for a queen size air mattress and even has all the extra features you need to store your belongings. That includes a mesh loft as well which will allow you to put away your belongings and the carrying case will allow you to easily store away all the parts of the tent to make it a lot easier to put away and carry along.

Cons

On the downside, the rainfly can be a little small which means there’s not a lot being covered by it. While this is not a problem in itself it means that the rest of the tent, which is not covered by the rainfly, is extremely waterproof and does not breath well.

This means that you might have a little less air through the tent even with the ventilation tents. At times this can lead to a little bit of moisture and condensation inside the tent because of the lack of breathability throughout.

Another note that some reviewers have made is that the material is very thin. This is so that the tent itself can be light but means that you might want to be a little more careful when you’re zipping up the doors or windows to make sure that you don’t snag the fabric. As long as you pay attention to zippers and the fabric you shouldn’t have a problem.

Verdict

Wenzel Alpine Tent has a lot of great features including the lightweight nature and the easy packing ability plus it sets up really easily and with only one person.

It also keeps out any rain and storming though it can have a little bit less breathability that makes it quite warm in the warmer months and gives you a little bit of moisture and condensation in the morning. Still, the balance shows that it really does have more positive features than negative ones and it’s still a good value for the money.

Comparison

The Topnaca 2-3 Person Tent is designed to go up easily and offer a windproof and waterproof system using aluminum rods. It’s designed a little bit different with a very sloped roof and a small dome without windows to the tent. This can be good for easy of setup but takes away from the amount of ventilation. This tent is also more expensive for less space overall.

Finally, the Winterial 2-Person Tent is very lightweight, which makes it easy to carry around and it is simple to setup with a very traditional dome design. On the other hand, this tent is made for only two people and without the rainfly covering the entire tent it doesn’t have a lot of privacy.
